A man in his 20s has been charged after shooting and killing a McDonald’s employee in New York. The trigger is said to have been that the accused’s mother was served cold fries.

On Monday last week, 23-year-old McDonald’s employee Matthew Webb was shot while at work.

It was the accused’s mother, who, according to the police, called her son after being served cold fries at a McDonald’s restaurant in New York.

The accused then went to the restaurant himself and confronted Webb, who had been at the till that day, before shooting the employee outside the restaurant.

Several American media have mentioned the case, including Insider and CBS News.

On Wednesday last week, Webb died of his injuries, according to the police in New York.

– Matthew Jeremiah Webb was a loving, funny and respectful young man, with two jobs, who put himself through school. He was a church organist and made something out of his life before it was viciously and senselessly taken from him, Webb’s family told CBS.

The owner of the McDonald’s restaurant says in a statement that they are heartbroken by the death:

– We are thinking of his family at this time. We will continue to cooperate with the authorities while the investigation is ongoing.

Confessed to second murder

According to the police, after shooting Webb, the accused gave the weapon to his girlfriend. He then fled the scene, but was later arrested and charged with attempted murder and possession of a weapon.

According to CBS, the accused’s girlfriend has been charged with possession of a weapon, and for allegedly hiding the weapon after the incident. The perpetrator’s mother has not been charged for the relationship.

During questioning, according to several media, the accused will also have confessed to another murder from October 2020, where 28-year-old Kevin Hollomon was killed outside an apartment in New York.

A police source is said to have stated to the newspaper that the perpetrator was suspected of this murder, but that the prosecutor’s office considered that there was insufficient evidence to press charges.

Several incidents of violence

It is not the first time this year that a “fast-food” worker has been killed at work in the United States.

In April, a delivery boy was shot while delivering an order in Queens. In January of this year, a 19-year-old Burger King employee was shot and killed during a robbery at the restaurant.
