Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev said that the state's revenues from the 2018 World Cup detention exceeded the cost of organizing the tournament.

"We spent about 650 billion rubles for preparing the World Cup, which is the cost of running the pension system during the month – and that's it," Medvedev said, citing Interfax.

He noted that this is a lot of money, but from the point of view of current expenses – the normal amount.

"According to the economists, around 200 billion more has been acquired by the league", added the prime minister.

The 21st in the history of the World Cup took place in 12 stadiums in 11 Russian cities from June 14th to July 15th. The winner of the tournament was the French team, which beat Croatia in the final. The third place was taken by Belgium, which won England. The Russian national team showed the best result in its history, reaching the quarter-finals of the tournament.
