A fire broke out in a workshop in a family home in Melchnau on Tuesday evening. Nobody got hurt. The house is currently no longer habitable. The cause of the fire is being clarified.
On Tuesday, May 19, 2020, the cantonal police in Bern were notified of a fire in a detached house on Dorfstrasse in Melchnau shortly after 7 p.m. The immediately deployed forces of the Grünenberg and Langenthal fire departments were able to localize the fire in the workshop on the ground floor, bring it under control and subsequently extinguish it.
The residents had already been able to leave the building independently before the emergency services arrived. An ambulance team checked two people on site. According to the current state of knowledge, no one was injured.
The whole house was badly damaged in the fire and is currently not habitable. Temporary accommodation was organized for the residents of the apartment above. The Dorfstrasse had to be completely closed for a few hours. Local diversion has been established.
The Cantonal Police of Berne has started an investigation into the cause of the fire and damage to property.
