Paris Saint-Germain said on Tuesday that Lionel Messi has a bone bruise and will miss the team’s match away to Metz on Wednesday.
“Lionel Messi, after the blow to his left knee, underwent an MRI this morning, which confirmed a bone contusion, and a new assessment will be made within 48 hours,” Paris Saint-Germain said in a statement.
The Argentine, who joined the French club from Barcelona on a two-year contract, was replaced 14 minutes from time during Paris Saint-Germain’s 2-1 win over Olympique Lyonnais on Sunday.
“We saw during the match that he was checking his knee and sending some signals,” Paris Saint-Germain coach Mauricio Pochettino told reporters.
Paris Saint-Germain leads the French Ligue 1 standings with 18 points.
Messi played for half an hour against Stade Reims last month and was a key player in the last two matches against Club Brugge in the Champions League and Lyon in the local league.
The Argentine player has not yet scored a goal with Paris Saint-Germain and hit the woodwork twice.
