Michael Johnson and Tigist Assefa shine the light on the inclusive relay with sports stars

The American Michael Johnsonfour-time gold medalist in three Olympic Games, and the Ethiopian Tigist Assefaworld marathon record holder, brightened this Wednesday the inclusive relay held at the Vallehermoso stadium that was awarded to the team led by Mariano Garciaworld indoor 800 meter champion.

The relay, a competition held within the framework of the Inclusive Sports Week organized by the Sanitas Foundation, consisted of a 2,024-meter race -five laps around the stadium-, in a nod to the year of the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games, in that athletes with and without disabilities participated.

The winner was the green team, made up of the triathlete Jairo Ruiz, bronze medalist at the Rio de Janeiro 2026 Paralympic Games; the middle distance runner Mariano Garcia, world indoor 800 meter champion; the olympic athlete Aauri Bokesathe silver medalist at the Deaflympic Games Jaime Martínez Murga and the blind sprinter Gerard Download and your guide William Red.

Athletes such as Sara AndresParalympic athletics world runner-up in 100 meters; Andrea Miguelez, double Paralympic triathlon world champion; the marchers Álvaro Martín and María Pérezdouble world champions; Adrian Ben, European indoor 800m champion; and Mohamed Katirworld runner-up in the 5,000 meters.

Among the attendees were Alejandro Blancopresident of the Spanish Olympic Committee; Miguel Carballeda, president of the Spanish Paralympic Committee; the paralympic swimmer Teresa Perales; Emilio Butragueño, Director of Institutional Relations of Real Madrid; and Iñaki PeraltaCEO of Sanitas.
