Starting next week, you can control Fortnite on Xbox One with a mouse and keyboard. Microsoft announced this as part of the X018 Fan Fest in Mexico. The Fortnite shooter is one of the most played video games of all time. It is next to the Warframe co-op shooter one of the two titles that can be managed next week on Xbox with mouse and keyboard.
According to Microsoft, the November bomber crew, Deep Rock Galactic, Strange Brigade, Vermintide 2, War Thunder and X-Morph Defense are dragging along. Later they followed Children of Morta, DayZ, Minion Master, Moonlighter, Vigor, Warface and Wargroove. Starting next week, however, all developers should have the opportunity to customize their game on the mouse and keyboard.
This step is completely optional, Microsoft announced in September. Microsoft offers developers the ability to include mouse and keyboard support in their game as an alternative to the gamepad, not as a replacement. Ultimately, therefore, the decision is up to the developers.
Basically, mouse and keyboard already work on Xbox. At the operating system level, users can enter and send messages using a keyboard. Using adapters that translate keyboard input into virtual gamepad inputs, you can now control games with the mouse and keyboard. However, this method does not work perfectly.
Mouse and keyboard are often higher than the gamepad
For years, Microsoft has promised full support for mouse and keyboard on Xbox – now the company finally puts this step into practice. Mouse and keyboard are more precise than the gamepad controls in many games, especially in shooters. In competitive online shooter games, mouse players have a significant advantage.
In other genres, including sports and fighting games, the game pad is often at the top of the table thanks to its soft stick control and easy-to-reach buttons and triggers. Also, since the gamepad is easier to use on the couch, it will continue to be the standard input method on the Xbox.
To solve this problem, players can be sent to separate servers using the mouse, which however divides the player's base. As will be managed in the future on Xbox, it is located with the respective developers.
