Microsoft is holding Xbox Series X event, but possibly without games

Microsoft may be planning an Xbox “What’s Next for Gaming” event sometime in the coming weeks. According to a report from ZDNet a gamer-focused showcase will follow soon, along with some other corporate-focused “What’s Next” events.

That’s not to say you should expect any big disclosures, and certainly not for information about the big upcoming games for Xbox Series X in Xbox Series S, among which Halo Infinite in Fable.

The event will likely focus on technology and the large Xbox ecosystem as a whole. That can be useful to get a picture of the Xbox roadmap and strategy for the future. ZDNet states that this event is reportedly separate from the Microsoft Game Stack Live event.

We may see updates on how Xbox works, or even teasers of new features. Xbox head Phil Spencer has already indicated that Xbox Cloud Gaming is also coming to iOS soon, and that would be the ideal time for the unveiling.

A busy summer for gamers

That doesn’t mean that game fans waiting for bigger titles are left hungry. If we look at the summer, we see that there are several major gaming events ahead. Summer Game Fest is coming, and the ESA has also announced that E3 2021 this year falls in June. It will be a fully digital event this year with several brands such as Capcom, Koch Media, Take-Two Interactive, Ubisoft, WB Games and Xbox already confirmed. The event will be free of charge, although there may be something new behind a paying entrance ticket.
