Bologna, 29 September 2021 – An exhibition to celebrate the donation of Milva. The university is planning to organize a large exhibition in a place yet to be defined one year after the artist’s death (she passed away on April 21) to show the legacy that her daughter Martina Corgnati has destined for our university. These are scores, scripts, texts, letters, photos, collections of reviews, posters, theater programs but also vinyls, DVDs, reel tapes and, above all, prizes and awards such as the four gold and platinum records. Strehler’s tickets, Battiato’s scores … “We still don’t know exactly – explains the professor William Fisher , president of the university library system – the numerical strength of the archive I visited at the lady’s home. It is not a huge but precious legacy “.

A legacy which takes on even more value as it arrives, as the rector points out Francesco Ubertini, right in the year in which the 50th anniversary of Dams is celebrated. Martina Corgnati , academic and art critic, explained the reasons for her choice very well: “Passing on the memory of a great interpreter requires not only adequate conservation and digitization of materials but constant study and deepening”.

Professor Pescatore, when will the donation arrive and where will it be received?
“The proposal will be analyzed next month by the university’s board of directors. The collection will be destined for the Biblioteca delle Arti which is located in Palazzo Marescotti in via Barberia and in the Santa Cristina complex but it has not yet been decided in which of the two poles it will be placed “.
In what times will it be available?
“Quick, a few months. Obviously all the material will be cataloged and gradually digitized. I am thinking of the photos and scores but also of the videos and tapes. It will be a fund open to scholars but also to students and undergraduates. It is significant that the lady Corgnati wants to financially support a dedicated scholarship every year “.
How was this legacy born? “The daughter told us that Milva felt deeply Emilian and that she had remained very attached to Bologna because she had lived here in her youth when the family moved from Goro. But, apart from that, it is her career as an artist that reflects exactly the spirit of Dams and create the right elective affinities. An interpreter who has passed from popular songs to niche songs to land as an actress at Giorgio Strehler’s Piccolo … These are the opposite aspects that perfectly represent the spirit of Dams “. The Milva archive is certainly of great interest and appeal. Does the Library of the Arts have many other funds?
“They have been enriching over time. I am thinking of that of Leo de Berardinis and also of the study center on Bruno Maderna. And then the collections of the composer René Leibowitz, of the dance critic Vittoria Ottolenghi, of the musician Andrea Centazzo … But donations of popular artists like her are not frequent. “
