A total of 501 minors were convicted with a final sentence for having committed a total of 636 sexual crimes in our country in 2022. This is revealed by the Conviction Statistics published this morning by the INE and that confirms an upward trend in this case of infractions that have increased by 14% in the last year.
This is the highest figure since 2017 – the year in which they began to be counted – when they were sentenced to 269 young people between 14 and 17 years for a total of 609 crimes. Of the 636 crimes committed last year, 389 were for sexual abuse and assault on minors under 16 years of age. Another 134 cases were for sexual abuse and 27 for sexual assault, of which four were rapes.
76% of the offenses were committed by men, while 23% were carried out by women, and in most cases they were convicted of a single crime.
Andalusia was the autonomous community in which the most people under 18 were sentenced, with a total of 104, followed by Cataloniawith 84 and Valencian Communitywith 56. For its part, Cantabria, Navarra y The Rioja They recorded less than 5.
Every year more crimes of a sexual nature are recorded and they occur in all age groups. In the case of the adultsLast year, 3,201 were sentenced for having committed 3,835 crimes. Of which, 762 were considered sexual abuse and assault of minors under 16 years of age, 1,458 were sexual abuse, and 462 were sexual assault, of which 46 were considered rape.
