Morocco: Dakhla hosts its 11th International Film Festival, from June 2 to 8 | APAnews

The 11th edition of the International Film Festival in Dakhla will take place from June 2 to 8, 2023, at the initiative of theAssociation for Cultural and Artistic Animation of the Southern Provinces.

This edition, which will see the presence of a host of Arab and African filmmakers, provides for the screening of 20 films in the two official competitions, feature films and short films. These films represent Senegal, Ivory Coast, Rwanda, Angola, Uganda, Central Africa, Comoros, Burkina Faso, Egypt, Cameroon, Tunisia, Somalia, Ghana , Mauritius and Morocco.

The feature film jury will be chaired by Dr. Freida Ekotto, novelist and chair of the African Studies section at the University of Michigan, while the short film jury will be headed by journalist and film critic Bilal Marmid.

During this festival, tributes will be paid to Moroccan star Asmaa Khamlichi, Angolan director and producer Zézé Gamboa and Egyptian actress Rania Farid Chawki.

With these activities, the festival intends to continue to affirm its cinematographic identity, in accordance with its objectives and aspirations, choosing to be a date for African and Arab cinema, and at the same time open to other cinematographic experiences.

The festival is also a meeting place for the personalities who ensure the progress of African and Arab cinema, namely directors, producers and stars of the seventh art.

On the menu of the festival are the organization of conferences, artistic meetings, training workshops for young people and a master class, as well as the screening of the latest national film productions.
