NBA free agency winners and losers heading into 2020-21 season

Just days after the opening of the NBA’s free agency, most of the best players available have already secured new deals for next season and, as always, several teams are listed as winners and losers.

If we have to talk about winners, the Los Angeles Lakers top the list, since one of the biggest surprises in the market was the signing of Montrezl Harrell for the next two seasons. They managed, in turn, to bring in Wesley Matthews, who will replace Danny Green for a fifth of the cost.

Another of the organizations that won with the development of this free agency are the Portland Trail Blazers, who, without having to deliver more pieces, added a player as efficient as Robert Covington. They also managed to sign Derrick Jones Jr. along with the renewals of Carmelo Anthony and Rodney Hood. If they stay healthy, they are one of the best squads in the West.

The Charlotte Hornets top the list of losers, as the contract extended to Gordon Hayward is out of proportion. Hayward is one of the winners this day by securing $ 120 million for the next four seasons, but this will be an extra restriction to make moves thanks to the tight salary cap.

The Denver Nuggets have not moved too much so far, but they had a sensitive loss with the departure of Jerami Grant, who despite receiving an offer from Denver comparable to the one he accepted with the Detroit Pistons, decided to look for a more leading role. Denver not only lost the one that had been emerging as its third star, but it has not filled its void.

There is still much to see in the NBA market, but in free agency there are only a few players who can make significant contributions and they will surely be committing very soon.
