The “Shuffle” function is currently being tested on Netflix.
Faced with the abundance of programs, it is not always easy to make a choice. That’s why the world’s most popular streaming platform is testing a new feature designed to help users choose a movie or series. This functionality takes the form of a “Shuffle Play” button and aims to select a program at random.
The selection is not really random since it is based on the user’s viewing history and the list of programs to watch later.
For now, the feature is still in the testing phase and only appears when connecting to Netflix from a TV. Some lucky ones around the world can already use this feature. Netflix has indicated that the end goal is obviously to offer it to all of its users.

However, this is not the first time that Netflix has tested such a feature without being adopted. Last year, the streaming service tested a similar system that allowed you to randomly choose an episode from a series, but it was ultimately withdrawn.
With shuffle reading, Netflix obviously tries to push its subscribers to stay as long as possible on its platform. One way to feed the addiction of binge-watching enthusiasts. Moreover, with this feature, the Netflix experience could approach that of traditional television in a way. Whether users will follow suit remains to be seen. Netflix has already done an about-face on several occasions following poor feedback from its community regarding features.
