New edition of the Fez International Film Festival

The second edition of the Fez International Film Festival will take place from June 24 to 30, with some forty Moroccan, African, Arab and European short and feature films in the running.

Initiated by the Fez International Film Festival Association in partnership with the Ministry of Youth, Culture and Communication, this edition will pay tribute to a host of artists, including Moroccan actors Amal Ayouch and Mohammed Choubi as well as as Egyptian actress Ilham Chaheen.

Twelve films representing, in addition to Morocco, France, Spain, Senegal, Egypt, Tunisia, India, the Netherlands, Algeria, Belgium and the Sultanate of Oman, will compete in feature film competition.

As for the short film competition, it will see the screening of 22 films representing in particular Senegal, Algeria, Tunisia, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Denmark, Iraq and Nigeria, in addition to Morocco.

These films will be judged by a jury chaired by Moroccan director Driss Chouika and composed of Tunisian director Hicham Ben Ammar, Iraqi director Jamal Amine and the president of the African Film Festival in Italy.

The association has chosen Spain as guest of honor for this second edition, during which four Spanish films will be screened. A meeting on “The image of Fez in cinema” and master classes led by renowned critics and directors are also on the menu of this festival, which is held in coordination with the Moroccan Cinematographic Center (CCM). In addition, the organizers are planning the screening, out of competition, of six feature films made in Fez over the past six years.
