Leonardo DiCaprio (44) wants to be part of the next directorial project by Oscar winner Guillermo del Toro (54, “Shape Of Water – The Whispering Waters”). The actor is negotiating for the lead role in “Nightmare Alley,” as the US industry papers Variety and Hollywood Reporter on Tuesday reported.
The original is the novel by William Lindsay Gresham, which was filmed in 1947 with Tyrone Power (German title “The charlatan”).
The Noir classic revolves around a cunning rogue who teams up for scams with a corrupt psychiatrist who eventually exempts him. Del Toro, who also wrote the screenplay, wants to start filming in the fall. With “Shape of Water” the Mexican won the Oscars for Best Film and Best Director in 2018.
DiCaprio was recently seen in the adventure film “The Revenant” (2015), which earned him an Oscar for Best Actor. In August, he will appear on the side of Brad Pitt in the Tarantino film “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” in German cinemas.
