Valentino Rossi has chosen Audi and the Fanatec GT World Challenge Europe championship for his future as a car driver. This was announced by the WRT team, with which the Doctor had carried out a test last December in Valencia on the R8 LMS.
Rossi will race in both the Endurance and Sprint Cups, driving an Audi R8 LMS, naturally with the number 46 on the doors. For the moment, however, it has not yet been announced who will be his crew mate.
Valentino said: “sam happy to join Team WRT for a full Fanatec GTWCE powered by AWS program. Everyone knows that I’ve always been a big fan of car racing and that I’ve always been interested in racing on four wheels once my MotoGP career has come to an end. I am now fully available to devote myself to a high-level motor racing program with the right professional approach. Team WRT is the perfect place I was looking for and I look forward to starting this new adventure in GTWCE with them.“.
Vincent Vosse he added: “I’m sure many fans will be as happy as we are that Vale is starting a new career on four wheels and that he is doing it in GT, with Team WRT and Audi. We all know that Vale is a great motorcycle champion and a great sports figure, but above all he is a true rider and a very professional and competitive sportsman, eager to have the greatest possible success in the new challenge he has decided to embrace. This is exactly why we wanted to work with him. The test we did in Valencia was extremely positive for both sides, in terms of technical feedback and approach to work, and we took things from there. We warmly welcome Vale to the WRT family and I’m sure we are off on a very exciting experience for both of us“.
Stéphane Ratel, founder and CEO of SRO Motorsports Group, concluded: “sam delighted to welcome Valentino Rossi to the Fanatec GT World Challenge Europe Powered by AWS grid for 2022. Having followed his illustrious career in motorcycle racing for more than two decades, it is truly exciting to see the start of this new chapter in GT machines. . Attracting a driver of Valentino’s caliber is a huge vote of confidence for our championship and for GT racing in general. It will bring new energy to our paddock and I can’t wait to watch it on track this season“.
