In Bangladesh, a bus ran off the road and plunged meters down. At least nineteen people did not survive and an unknown number of others were injured.
There were more than 40 passengers on the bus. The driver, who did not survive the accident, appears to have lost control of the wheel after a tire blowout. The exact cause of the accident is still under investigation.
The death toll is expected to rise further. Some of the injured are in critical condition, police said.
The bus accident happened near the town of Shibchar, about 80 kilometers southeast of the capital Dhaka. Major bus and car accidents occur with some regularity in Bangladesh, where many very outdated vehicles are on the road and enforcement of traffic rules is not equally strict everywhere.
