Immigration agents detained 58 foreigners suspected of being illegally in the United States, in a series of raids in the north-east of the country.
US Immigration Service and Customs (ICE) agents have made arrests in recent days in the states of Massachusetts, Rhode Island, New Hampshire and Connecticut, according to the Boston Herald.
In Massachusetts, arrests were made in Lawrence, Worcester, and the Boston Dorchester and East Boston neighborhoods.
The agency reported that among the inmates are citizens of Brazil, Jamaica, Haiti and the Dominican Republic. He added that of the inmates, 15 had been released by local authorities despite the ICE's request to retain them.
Boston and other communities in New England are considered "refuge cities", that is, where local authorities limit their cooperation with federal immigration authorities.
