OFFICIAL: Man City Get New Goalkeeper, Replaces Ederson

Ortega is plotted as City’s No.2 goalkeeper next season. He replaced Zack Steffen who had the potential to be released after a blunder in the semi-finals of the FA Cup last.

Manchester City have officially signed goalkeeper Stefan Ortega. The goalkeeper is the second new member of Pep Guardiola’s squad this summer after Erling Haaland.

Ortega was brought in by City on a free transfer from relegated Bundesliga club Arminia Bielefeld. The 29-year-old goalkeeper is contracted until June 2025.

The German crossbar guard became a potential replacement for City’s No.2 goalkeeper, Zack Steffen. The last name has the potential to be released following a fatal blunder that caused the defeat of Liverpool in the FA Cup semi-finals last season.

“This is a fantastic move for me. Manchester City are an extraordinary team, a squad with world-class quality in every position,” said Ortega.

“I have enjoyed my career in Germany and I want to thank the fans of Arminia Bielefeld for their support. But the new challenge at City and playing in the Premier League is too good for me to ignore.”

Ortega only missed defending Arminia Bielefeld last season in the Bundesliga. However, the goalkeeper who excels in long ball passes failed to prevent his team from being relegated by conceding 53 goals in 33 matches, and only recorded six clean sheets.

Previously, Ortega was on the list of players put up for Germany’s Euro 2020 squad and has been linked with a move to Bayern Munich as back-up for Manuel Neuer.
