OFFICIAL – UEFA Intervenes to Investigate Barcelona’s Bribery Case, Joan Laporta Attacks Back to Journalists

BOLASPORT.COM – UEFA officially intervened to investigate allegations of bribery in Barcelona in the Negreira Scandal, Joan Laporta’s side hit back at the media over allegations of defamation of the club’s reputation.

UEFA confirmed it would launch an investigation into allegations of bribery by Barcelona against the former vice president of the Spanish refereeing committee, Jose Negreira.

The decision was announced by Europe’s highest football authority on Thursday (23/3/2023).

The agency led by Aleksander Ceferin will explore potential violations of law in this case, which is often called the Negreira Scandal.

“In accordance with Article 31(4) of the UEFA Disciplinary Regulations, the UEFA Ethics and Disciplinary Inspectorate has been appointed to carry out an investigation into potential breaches of law by FC Barcelona in relation to ‘Caso Negreira’,” UEFA said in a statement.

European football’s governing body has the authority to impose administrative sanctions if Barcelona are found to have committed corruption according to an indictment by a Spanish court.

The 26-time Spanish League champion could be dropped from all UEFA competitions.

This means that Barca is in danger of failing to appear in the Champions League, Europa League and Conference League next season.
