One dead and 18 injured in the serious accident of a minibus in Antwerp

The road accident took place around 3:30 a.m. at a crossroads in the Flemish metropolis. A minibus carrying British nationals was traveling at high speed when the driver lost control of the vehicle on a bend. The minibus hit a pole before rolling onto its side. The minibus had just before that been hit by a car. After touching it, the driver of the car followed the minibus which picked up speed after the contact between the two vehicles.

The driver did not survive the accident. The other 18 passengers were taken to hospital. A 15-year-old boy was seriously injured and his life is in danger. The other people on board had minor injuries. The driver of the car, in a state of shock, was counted among the victims by the police.

No other vehicles were involved in the incident. It has not yet been established why the vehicle was traveling at excessive speed.
