The BBK Corporation, having achieved excellent success with the Vivo, OPPO and Realme brands in its country of origin, in China, is trying to transfer these successes to a foreign land – and in particular to Russia. So far it has not gone so well, but the company continues to try to find its own approach, which differs from the more obvious "cheaper and with better features". One way is to surprise.
The Vivo NEX series is designed to be surprising. The flower of the eyelet last year has become the first smartphone in the world with a retractable camera, which has made it possible to create an almost completely frameless display without tricks such as a "bang" or a catacolpo inserted directly into the front camera screen. At the beginning of this year a second NEX appeared, in which the same result was achieved with the help of an additional display from the back. Both these smartphones have come out in limited editions and at a very serious price.
The Vivo V15 / V15 Pro is a direct successor to last year's NEX ideas, but designed for a mass consumer: at half the price, while it is thinner, lighter and with a triple camera.
Vivo V15, despite having almost the same name, differs dramatically from the Pro version: a weaker platform (Mediatek P70) is combined with a slightly larger LCD display (6.53 inches), a larger battery and a version simplified, but also triple the camera. Vivo V15 costs 28,990 rubles, V15 Pro – 34,990 rubles. In this review we will talk only about the Pro version.

The appearance of the Vivo V15 Pro expresses its concept. It has almost no frames around the display (the screen here occupies 91.64% of the front panel area), a relatively thin smartphone with a clear focus on the rear camera. It is expressed in the fact that the unit in which there are three objectives and the flash not only protrudes above the body, but is also highlighted in color.
In general, the Vivo V15 Pro color design deserves a few words. Smart phones are no longer surprising today: fortunately, the times of black tubes, silver and gold have passed – and the V15 Pro is perfectly coordinated with this trend: it can be copper red ("bright coral"), as in our case, and blue blue ("blue topaz"). I add that even the back has received an unusual texture, thanks to which the body projects beautiful reflections in the rays of light.
Both the front and rear panels are coated in glass – at the back it is curved towards the edges to visually reduce the thickness of the device and improve grip. The front glass is flat. Like almost all modern glass smartphones, especially with curved edges, the Vivo V15 Pro strives to crawl on any non-ideal flat surface – be careful. It can also slip from his hands, and his back surface is no different from the resistance to various grease stains and fingerprints. If you are using a V15 Pro without a case, you will also need to get a cleaning cloth and use it regularly.
Despite the narrow frame and the small thickness, it is impossible to use the Vivo V15 Pro with one hand: the 6.4-inch display barely allows you to close your fingers and it is not necessary to talk about reaching the corners.
The front camera unit is located on the top panel. As you can imagine, it is thicker than the main part of the body and is found in the block of rooms that protrudes above the body. Manual removal of the front camera is not possible. The camera only pushes when needed, when you turn on any application that requires its participation. If you rarely take photos and you're not a selfie fan at all, then look at its appearance, which is accompanied by a characteristic hi-tech vocal acting, often it won't. It takes about a second to advance or hide. Like any telescopic element, it collects a lot of dust, even if it is rarely used, but fits perfectly into the slot. Almost every time before making a selfie, the lens will need to be cleaned.
In the ergonomics of the Vivo V15 Pro, there are three other distinctive elements. The first is an additional key on the left side, originally created to call the intelligent assistant of the Jovi brand, but we have very limited functionality, so in this case it activates the Google Assistant. The second is just two different card slots. The one below accepts two nano-SIM cards, the one on the left is microSD. An original and user-friendly solution.
The third point is the microUSB port instead of the already known USB Type-C. This is also an original but rather paradoxical decision. Yes, it's even easier to find a microUSB cable, but you can't find this connector on smartphones in this class. Another "anachronism" – a mini-jack, rendered on the upper limit. He rejoices, and it is not necessary to talk about the protection of the sacrificed moisture – the same, it is impossible in the presence of a sliding element. The light and proximity sensors are hidden under the screen: in some moments you can notice their work flickering from the protective glass that covers the screen.
The problem of Vivo's hidden fingerprint scanner has more experience than anyone else – it was this company that released the UD Vivo X20 Plus smartphone, the first in the world to receive this item. Today there are already some, but the ultrasonic sensors do not always work in a stable way. Vivo V15 Pro in this regard is a good example: based on the experience of interaction with it, the local optical sensor differs little from the usual capacitive sensor. Yes, it works a little longer, but it is very stable and with a minimal waste rate.
It is interesting to note that, despite the lack of a constantly active front camera and the presence of a well-functioning fingerprint scanner, Vivo has not abandoned the facial recognition system. It's basic here – just check the face with a photo taken on the front end, but it works: the camera comes out of the case for half a second, does its job and comes back immediately. The whole process takes no more than a second.
Works Vivo V15 Pro runs the Android 9 operating system with the original Funtouch OS 9 shell (the mod that combines the numbers with Google's current operating system got Vivo created). I haven't seen any major changes to the Vivo NEX Dual Screens shell. The same set of proprietary applications that cause mild allergies (the Theme, the Managers, the Music), a curtain of the notification panel, which should be lowered from the top and a set of settings, which should be raised from below ( and this is still not very comfortable to do). There are still problems with translation (the game mode is called "Game Box", for example), and I probably just got used to fonts and design, although I wouldn't say they are particularly good here. However, the Vivo V15 Pro shell works quickly and stably – no critical errors or crashes occurred during the two weeks of testing.
⇡ #Display and sound
The Vivo V15 Pro has a 6.4-inch display with an AMOLED matrix with a resolution of 2340 × 1080 pixels (19.5: 9 format). Pixel density: 403 ppi. The screen on organic light-emitting diodes is one of the most important advantages of the V15 Pro compared to many competitors. Despite the active penetration of matrices of this type on the market, they continue to arrive mainly to flowers with the eyelet, and the Vivo smartphone of the upper middle class is one of the few of its kind.
Both in the details and in the viewing angles it is difficult to find defects with the Vivo V15 Pro screen. Obviously, on the screen of such a diagonal you can see the difference between Full HD and 4K resolution video with higher pixel density, but this, frankly , is not at all critical. This is still the mobile device. The screen is equipped with a touch coating that responds to 10 simultaneous touches, all major multi-touch gestures are supported. C & # 39; a polarizing layer. The oil repellent coating is also in place and very good. V15 Pro dries without much effort.
The maximum measured brightness is 443 cd / m2. A good indicator for the AMOLED display – in combination with the polarization level, this allows you to safely use your smartphone in any light. The sun obviously affects the richness of the colors, but surely there will be no problems with the visibility of the image.
You can enable the display of the time and notifications even on a locked phone with a conventionally off screen – what we all know by the name Always-On Display, but everyone calls this feature differently than who is that way. There are different types of visual design.
Minimum Vivo V15 Pro screen settings: adjust brightness control, adjust characters and change color temperature. It is possible to make the colors warmer, it can be colder, but globally with the color rendering of the display of this smartphone nothing can be done, it remains to trust the factory settings.
The average range is 2.28 with very quiet curve behavior, so the range setting is generally accepted as correct. The color temperature ranges from 7,000 K to 8,400 K with an average of around 8,000 K. Not critical, but the image will be colder than expected, this is a typical situation for smartphone default settings: it is believed that cold colors are better perceived by the eye. If desired, you can adjust it in the menu. The color range is close to the DCI-P3 standard, but the smartphone is not distinguished by color accuracy: the average DeltaE deviation on the Color Checker scale is 5.42. This correct will not work. The indicator is not bad again, but not very good. Rather, the usual smartphone standards.
Due to the presence of a mini-jack, the Vivo V15 Pro already stands out from the general context of modern smartphones beyond the budget level. Now the possibility of using wired headphones without an adapter is a rarity. Otherwise, some special talents in the field of V15 Pro sound do not stand out. The power reserve is slightly above average, the sound quality is quite ordinary. The main speaker is the only one located on the bottom. Sounds loud, no more to say about it.
