For the first time in the history of Indonesian badminton, PBSI will roll out the President’s Cup championship.
The 2022 President’s Cup is a historic championship for PBSI and Indonesian badminton.
Because, since it was founded in 1951, only this year has PBSI held the President’s Cup championship.
“This is a new history in Indonesia, where a badminton championship was held to compete for the President’s Cup of the Republic of Indonesia,” said PBSI General Chair Agung Firman Sampurna at a press conference at the PBSI Pelatnas in Cipayung, East Jakarta, Monday (25/7) afternoon. .
“PP PBSI’s efforts to fight for the President’s Cup championship have finally been realized,” Agung added.
Badminton President’s Cup 2022 is scheduled to be held at GOR Nanggala, Cijantung, East Jakarta, on August 1-6.
The championship will feature 11 events, namely the children’s singles and women’s age group (U13), the beginners’ singles and women’s doubles (U15), as well as the men’s singles and doubles, and the youth group mixed doubles (U17).
In the 2022 President’s Cup, the participants will compete by defending their respective provinces.
The national badminton championship provides a total prize of more than IDR 1 billion.
In addition, the region with the highest number of gold medals is entitled to the rotating President’s Cup trophy.
“Our highest gratitude and appreciation goes to Mr. President Jokowi. Also to PT Adaro Energy Indonesia, Tbk., as the sole sponsor of the 2022 Presidential Cup. Also to all those who have supported the implementation of this championship,” said Agung Firman Sampurna.
Registration for the 2022 President’s Cup participants was closed on 19 July.
The total number of participants in the Presidential Cup this time is 620 athletes from 30 provinces throughout Indonesia.
Provinces that did not send athletes were East Nusa Tenggara, Maluku, North Maluku, and West Papua.
“We will turn the Nanggala Stadium into a badminton match arena with a total of six fields,” said the Chairperson of the Presidential Cup Organizing Committee, Armand Dharmadji.
“We will also open MSME tenants in the parking lot of GOR Nanggala as a form of people’s economic support,” Armand added.
Regarding health protocols during the implementation of the 2022 Badminton President’s Cup, the organizing committee requires anyone who enters the match area to scan Peduli Protect.
“We also require a booster vaccine or at least a second vaccine (for a certain age) to all parties involved in the 2022 Presidential Cup, including the media. Meanwhile, people who will watch live can come to the arena for free,” Armand concluded.
