Plane crash: Four children found alive

The pilot is said to have reported an emergency situation, due to engine failure, before the plane crashed to the ground on 1 May.

Since then, a huge search operation has been carried out for the seven passengers from the plane in the Guaviare area of Colombia, right next to the Amazon rainforest.

The persistent search effort was carried out by military forces, tracking dogs, helicopters and by the local population of Guaviare.

Despite challenges with heavy rain, they finally managed to find the wreckage of the Cessna 206 plane near the village of Palma Rosa, after two weeks.

Inside and outside the plane, the three adult passengers were then found dead. But the four children, who also traveled on the plane, had still disappeared without a trace. Everyone under the age of 13.

After 16 days, the military, with their three tracking dogs, found the first sign of life after the children. Three kilometers from where the plane had crashed, a pair of purple scissors and hair ties were found.

The dogs are said to have sniffed branches which it was assumed that the children had used as shelter from the rain, as well as a pink baby bottle.

After surviving in the jungle for 370 hours, the four children were found alive.

– After a painstaking search effort by our military forces, we have found the four children alive. A joy for the country, the country’s president Gustavo Petro told local media.
