The rescue operation was complicated by the fact that electricity was still running through the wires. A spokesperson for the Montgomery County Fire & Rescue Service shared on Twitter a video of the rescue and reported that the two occupants were unharmed.
After taking off from an airport near White Plains in the state of New York, the plane crashed into the high-voltage cables just outside the American capital Washington. How this could happen is not yet known. It was foggy at that time.
The accident left some 80,000 people in the area without power and schools will remain closed all day Monday.
