2021 is over and with it the first full year of the PlayStation 5. To celebrate the day, Sony is digging into the statistics and announcing which games had the most downloads last year.
Sony has once vigorously browsed through the statistics of the PlayStation Store. The result is three charts listing the titles that were downloaded the most per platform in 2021 – sadly without concrete numbers, but revealing nonetheless.
While football on the PS5 in the USA only plays a minor role at number 12, FIFA is represented twice in Europe, namely with FIFA 22 at number 1 and FIFA 21 at number 3. In the USA, NBA 2K22 has the crown fetched. What the two regions have in common is that Call of Duty: Vanguard is in second place. Also up front: Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Battlefield 2042, FarCry 6 and Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla. Interesting: while blockbusters and sports games are dominant in the USA, smaller titles such as Among Us, Kena: Bridge of Spirits and It Takes Two also appear in the European lists.
The PlayStation 4 looks pretty much the same as the PS5 in the US, at least as far as the presence of sports games is concerned. However, the first three places go to GTA 5, Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War and Minecraft. In Europe, top dog FIFA 22 dominates, followed by GTA 5 and Minecraft. What is surprising is that The Crew 2 made it to number 6 ahead of Red Dead Redemption 2 and that the rather outdated The Witcher 3 is still in the top 10, namely number 8.
When it comes to VR games, both regions agree: 1st place goes to Beat Saber, 2nd place goes to Job Simulator and 3rd place goes to Superhot VR. When it comes to free-to-play titles, Fortnite simply cannot be beat, followed by Call of Duty: Warzone and Rocket League. You can see the complete lists in PlayStation-Blog look at.
