Police are looking for a driver involved in a "horrible" fatal accident in southern Brisbane south last night.

Emergency crews were summoned to Lutwyche Road in Windsor shortly after midnight in response to reports of a five-vehicle accident.

Police said a driver who believes he is accelerating has lost control of his car and clashed with three other cars and a motorcycle.

Two people died on the spot, while the paramedics treated them differently for minor injuries.

Inspector Daniel Bragg described the scene as "chaotic".

"This is probably the worst traffic accident I've seen in over 30 years of police," he said.

The driver of the car has escaped from the scene and is still believed to be on the run.

Inspector Bragg said the incident had "terrible consequences".

"It's pretty devastating to see something like this, some innocent lives have been lost," he said.

The forensic crash unit is investigating.
