New York – A massive blackout lasting several hours hit the US metropolis of New York in the early evening. More than 70,000 people in Midtown Manhattan and the Upper West Side were affected. The incident was resolved around midnight. The glowing billboards in famous Times Square suddenly went out. Lifts stood still, traffic lights turned off, also at some subway stations the enterprise was stopped. Several shows on Broadway had to be canceled, several artists offered spontaneous appearances on the sidewalk in front of the entrance.
