LONDON – Hundreds of protesters arrived in central London and blocked the main bridges of the capital to ask the government to take climate change seriously.
A group called "Extinction Rebellion" encouraged sit-ins on bridges Saturday as part of a coordinated action week across the country.
The Metropolitan Police said emergency vehicles were hampered by entering London due to the "block" of five bridges. The force said it had asked all demonstrators to gather at Westminster Bridge, where agents can facilitate a legal protest.
About two dozen people were arrested on Monday after protesters blocked traffic and glued to the gates outside the Department of Enterprise, Energy and Industrial Strategy.
