PSG and Bakker win French treble and ruin official return Memphis | NOW

Paris Saint-Germain has secured the French treble on Friday. The team of basic player Mitchel Bakker won the Coupe de la Ligue by settling with Olympique Lyon in the final after penalties. The official return of Memphis Depay therefore did not yield a price.

There were no goals scored in 120 minutes of playtime, after which only Olympique Lyon striker Bertrand Traoré missed in the penalty series.

Memphis played his first official game since he tore a cruciate ligament in his knee on December 15. Earlier this month, the former PSV player already participated in a number of Lyon exhibition games.

It was the last Coupe de la Ligue final, as the cup competition ends after this season to make the schedule of the French clubs a little less busy. PSG is entering the books with nine victories, six of which in the last seven years, as the record winner.

Thomas Tuchel’s team already won the Coupe de France, the most important cup tournament in France, last week by beating Saint-Étienne 1-0 in the final. PSG was also named champion after the Ligue 1 was discontinued prematurely. PSG, which is also in the quarterfinals of the Champions League, has won three national prizes three times in one season: in 2014/2015, 2015/2016 and 2017/2018.

Memphis occasionally shows its class

In an open first half, both teams had opportunities for about five thousand fans at the Stade de France in Paris. Just before half-time, Olympique Lyon goalkeeper Anthony Lopes had a very nice reflex at home after a distance from Idrissa Gueye.

On the other hand, industrious Memphis occasionally showed its class. The Orange-international fully completed in the opening phase, saw a changed direction just after the break, just ending up on the wrong side of the post for him. After eighty minutes, the Lyon captain was taken off the field by trainer Rudi Garcia.

Shortly after, Neymar did not get a good chance for the first time, but Lyon star Lopes saved well on the Brazilian’s header. An extension was therefore needed, but neither team was able to score. Lyon defender Rafael got red just before time to take down the broken Ángel Di María, just outside the sixteen meter area.

In the penalty series, the first ten penalties all hit. In the eleventh penalty, PSG keeper Keylor Navas cleverly saved the bet of former Ajax player Traoré, after substitute Pablo Sarabia secured the ‘treble’ from PSG.
