Lionel Messi revealed, the process of recovering himself from Covid-19 will take longer than expected. However, he admits he is ready to return to the Paris Saint-Germain squad after being sidelined in a few weeks.
The Argentina international has actually been in training in recent days, with him heading towards full fitness.
It was not easy for Messi to beat the competition in France, where he struggled to score as usual. However, he hopes to start scoring more goals on a regular basis as PSG struggle to secure the Ligue 1 title in the second half of the season.
“Good evening! As you know, I have contracted Covid and I want to thank all of you for the messages I have received and I can tell you that it will take longer than I anticipated, but I am almost recovering and I can’t wait to get back on the pitch,” Messi wrote on Instagram.
“I’ve been training for the past few days to reach 100%, very good challenges are coming this year and hopefully soon we can see each other again. Thank you!!!”
It is believed Covid struck Messi when he returned to the Argentina squad over the Christmas period, with a DJ among those found guilty. However, the DJ refused to take responsibility.
Messi’s return to France was delayed and he has been battling his infection ever since.
It seems, he is ready to return to the PSG squad in the near future. The superstar has scored one goal and bagged four assist in Ligue 1 this season, but has scored five goals in the Champions League.
Of the 20 matches that have passed, PSG lead the Ligue 1 standings with an 11-point advantage after finishing last season as runner-up, lost to Lille.
