Remembering M Taufik: Often Feuding with Ahok, Supports Anies to Become the 2024 Presidential Candidate

TRIBUNTANGERANG.COM, TANGERANG – Former deputy chairman of the DPRD DKI, Mohamad Taufik passed away, Wednesday (3/5/2023).

Until the end of his life, Taufik was a member of the DKI Jakarta DPRD for the 2019-2024 period.

Taufik is a former Gerindra Party cadre. When Taufik left Gerindra, his position as Deputy Chairman of the DPRD ended.

M Taufik is a hard line supporter of Anies. Recently, M Taufik also stated that he supports Anies Baswedan as a presidential candidate.

In the 2017 DKI gubernatorial election, the Gerindra Party nominated Anies Baswedan as a candidate for governor. His toughest rival is Basuki Tjahaja Purnama or Ahok who is supported by PDIP Perjuangan.

Anies Baswedan, who paired with Sandiaga Uno, finally won the 2017 DKI Pilgub.

M Taufik played a big role in Anies-Sandi’s victory.

Even though Anies won the DKI Pilgub, Taufik was reluctant to share his strategy for defeating the incumbent. “The important thing is that Ahok has lost,” said Taufik in September 2018.

Previously, during Governor Ahok’s term, Taufik several times disagreed with Basuki Tjahaja Purnama or Ahok.

One of the disputes between Ahok and Taufik was the difference of opinion regarding reducing the reclamation developer’s additional contribution from 15 percent to 5 percent.

The feud between the two started with the trial of a bribe case from a beach reclamation developer. The trial was held at the Corruption Court, Jakarta, September 2016.

Sanusi, a former member of the DPRD DKI who became the defendant, said that there was an informal discussion between Ahok and Taufik in the VIP room of the DPRD DKI building.

During the meeting, Taufik showed Ahok the simulation table for an additional 15 percent contribution. If an additional 15 percent contribution is set, the developer will have to pay Rp 48 trillion.

Based on Taufik’s statement, at that time Ahok was shocked and said, “Wow, this is what we call private robbery.”
