BCoach Joachim Löw will not serve the German national football team for a stay in the European Championship qualifiers in Belarus and against Estonia. This was announced by the German Football Association (DFB) on Friday.
Löw had to undergo treatment for the after-effects of a sports accident in which an artery had been squeezed. Assistant coach Marcus Sorg will represent the 59-year-old on Saturday (8 June) in Borissow and three days later in Mainz.
“I feel very well again, but I have to spare a bit in the next four weeks. I am in constant contact with my coaching team, and we will also be in close contact with each other around the two international matches, “Löw is quoted in the DFB statement.
The coach said: “Marcus Sorg, Andy Köpke and Oliver Bierhoff have a lot of experience together, and together we will bridge this short break well.” The German selection prepares for the opening victory in the Netherlands (3: 2 ) on Sunday in the Dutch Venlo on the qualifiers in Belarus and Estonia before.
“The important thing is that Jogi will be fit in a couple of days. Even if one feels that he would most like to be back at the training ground, it is certainly right to spare oneself. Marcus Sorg and Andy Köpke know the procedures and the team very well, they discuss everything closely with Jogi anyway, “said national team director Oliver Bierhoff.
