Reports of sexual crimes increased by 13,2% in the first half of the year compared to the same period in 2022 and computer scams skyrocketed again, with an increase of almost 21%according to the crime balance made public this Friday by the Ministry of the Interior.
The balance reflects that in the first six months of the year there have been 1,190,319 criminal offenses, 5.8% more than in the same period in 2022, which, according to Interior, reflects “a change in the upward trend”, given that the growth of the previous quarter was higher. Homicides and murders increased by 11% (177) and 16.8% those that were committed on an attempted level. Although it is a rare crime, the 65 kidnappings reported in the first half of the year stand out, 71% more than the previous year. Cybercrimes now account for 16.4% of crime
Of the 1,190,319 crimes registered, 81% (972,640) correspond to conventional crime violations, which have grown by 3.1% compared to the first half of 2022. Meanwhile, cybercrime, with 217,679 criminal offenses, registered an increase of 19.7 percent. In this type of crime, the 20.9% increase in complaints about computer scams stands out, which also represent 89.9% of all cybercrime.
In 2022, 335,995 virtual scam crimes were reported compared to the 70,178 registered in 2016, which shows that in just six years scams have grown more than one 370%. 2,307 rape complaints, 11% more than in 2022
Regarding the events reported against sexual freedom, the balance made public this Friday by the Ministry of the Interior, the security forces and bodies recorded between January and June 9.560 complaints, of which 2.307 They were for rape, a 11% more than the sexual assaults with penetration reported in the first half of last year.
