According to the study, the results of which were published in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology, olive oil consumption reduces the risk of death from causes such as Alzheimer’s, heart diseases and cancer.
In the study, the health conditions and diets of 60,582 women and 31,801 men living in the USA between 1990 and 2018 were examined.
CONSUMPTION OF OLIVE OIL MORE THAN HALF SOUPSPOON PER DAY REDUCE THE RISK OF DEATH BY 19 PERCENT
It was found that those who consumed more than half a tablespoon of olive oil a day had a 19 percent lower risk of death from all diseases and heart diseases than those who did not consume olive oil at all.
The research also showed that consuming more than one tablespoon of olive oil daily reduced the risk of death from neurological degenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s by 29 percent, the risk of death from cancer by 17 percent, and the risk of death from respiratory diseases by 18 percent.
EVEN A TEA SPOON OF OLIVE OIL CONSUMPTION IS USEFUL
In the study, which revealed that even a teaspoon of olive oil consumption per day reduces the risk of death from all causes by 12 percent, it was stated that these risks decreased when compared to the consumption of animal fat, and there was no difference when compared to the consumption of other vegetable oils.
Speaking to the USA Today website, Dr. Susanna Larsson emphasized that the research findings are important given the lack of preventive measures such as Alzheimer’s and the high death rates due to these.
