The social revival plan after the days of greatest danger due to the pandemic of Covid-19 —Which would include the restart of Liga MX and other professional sports leagues in Mexico—, is scheduled to appear next week, said the Undersecretary of Health, Hugo López-Gatell. However, some places may have restrictions due to contagion cases, such as Mexico City, Toluca (State of Mexico) and Tijuana (Baja California).
Questioned by EL UNIVERSAL Sports, López-Gatell reported that they will take into account various factors to allow the reactivation of sports activities (among others), such as the Liga MX, the Mexican Baseball League (LMB) and other contests.
“They are a set of factors [que se necesitan para reiniciar las actividades deportivas]. There are two elements to consider, the main one is health, “said the official. “It takes as long as possible so that there is no activity in the public space and prevent infections.”
The restart of the Liga MX, as the Santos Laguna coach, Guillermo Almada, aired, would occur between mid and late July. However, the health official’s statements make the short-term outlook unclear. Within what he detailed, he said that “the opening will be staggered, organized and will consider the sectors of economic and social activity, and on the other hand the territoriality and which are the vulnerable areas.”
This would mean that in Mexican soccer plans, the tournament will be taken to venues where the number of cases and infections has been lower.
According to data published at the López-Gatell conference last Saturday, Mexico City and Tijuana are among the five metropolises with the most sufferers of the new coronavirus strain. While the State of Mexico is another entity that also meets a high number of affected people.
This would mean that teams like América, Cruz Azul, Pumas, Tijuana and Toluca – from Liga MX – would have difficulties playing at their venues when the Clausura 2020 tournament resumes. Same case for the Red Devils of Mexico and Tijuana Bulls in the LMB.
“We met[withmanagersofthe[condirectivosdelaLiga MX]prior to the start of the Sana Distancia journey [que se dio a mediados de marzo]. We had a very proactive meeting. Now we have to continue that effort, “he limited himself to saying about the meetings he had with the leaders of Mexican soccer.
The return to sports activities is also of utmost importance for government sports entities, such as Conade and COM, so that they can reopen their sports centers, which for now remain closed.
