By continuing to familiarize with the new low-cost GeForce GTX 1650 video card series, we tested the MSI GeForce GTX 1650 Ventus XS in the latest revision. Now on the line is the superior version of the game line, which implies a higher level of technical performance, better cooling and better overclocking. How correct are these expectations? MSI GeForce GTX 1650 Gaming X 4G
The video card is available in a medium-sized box, which has the usual design for the Gaming series.
The delivery set differs in a rich print set. In addition to the standard instructions and the software CD, there is a small comic strip and a set of cardboard cups for a cup.
Visually, the video card resembles other models of the game line, but slightly smaller in size. The total length is 24.5 cm. Cooling takes up two slots.
Against the backdrop of MSI Ventus, this model seems much more solid. Even with an external examination, it is possible to see the heat pipe and a more complex cooling design.
The simple GeForce GTX 1650 does not require external power, but there is a six-pin connector in the corner of the board.
Unlike Ventus, there is no DVI connector. The game has an HDMI port and two DisplayPorts.
For cooling, a simplified version of the Twin Frozr 7 cooling device is used. It uses a rather large radiator made up of thin plates and a thick heat pipe. All this seems quite serious against the background of how the GeForce GTX 1650 cost a simple one-piece radiator.
Direct contact of the heat pipe with the surface of the graphic chip has been implemented. The thermal paste imprint shows that the tube covers half the area of the crystal. The accurate assembly of the tube on the channel and the sanding of the base minimize any empty spaces along the edges of the tube. Furthermore, the radiator removes heat from the memory chips. To do this, there are two thermal pads on the sides of the tube, and two other pads rest on a special pad on the ribs (in the photo to the left of the base).
On the external side, two 90 mm fans are installed on the radiator (blades of about 88 mm in diameter).
Fans of a unique design, run on TorX 3.0 technology are used. The particular shape of the blades increases the power of the air flow, increasing the efficiency of the entire system.
MSI GeForce GTX 1650 Gaming X 4G has a large PCB 23 cm long, which allows you to simplify wiring and increase the area of conductive layers. High quality electronic components are used.
The graphics processor is powered by a three-phase voltage converter.
Complete marking of the TU117-300-A1 processor. Around it, four Micron 8NB77 D9VVR memory chips are soldered, the same chips are used in MSI Ventus. The total memory capacity is 4 GB.
MSI Gaming X boasts a good factory core overclock. With a standard base value of 1485 MHz, the average Boost clock is at 1860 MHz, which is well above the standard 1665 MHz level. The memory operates at an effective frequency of 8000 MHz.
With a game load, the video card showed a fairly stable boost without serious frequency changes. In the most difficult tests, the GPU worked in the range 1935-1950 MHz with peak values up to 1980 MHz. This is illustrated below in the monitoring screenshots when tested in Final Fantasy XV for Windows Edition and The Division 2. MSI Ventus had core frequencies slightly below 1900 MHz.
During the tests on an open bench, the maximum temperatures reached 64 ° C. MSI Ventus in the same conditions heated only to 52 ° C. What is the reason? The fact is that the game gradually changes fan speed. During the period of inactivity, they are completely disabled and as they warm up, their speed gradually increases. The graphs clearly show that after reaching the peak value, there is a decline and stabilization of the temperatures and fan speeds at a lower level. And MSI Gaming is clearly quieter, fans are hardly audible here, as they barely run up to 1100-1200 rpm. Within the restricted case, the heating will be higher, but such cooling has a powerful potential to maintain low operating temperatures with low noise in all conditions.
The screens above show that the video adapter reaches 92% of maximum power. That is, the game has a margin of power. And the power limit is not blocked, it can be further increased by a few percentage points. This is a great advantage, because the narrow power limits limit the additional overclocking potential for the simple GeForce GTX 1650. And in terms of this potential, the game is fine. This copy was able to accelerate to 160 MHz in the core with a Boost peak at 2145 MHz. The average frequencies in the load are almost always stably maintained at 2100 MHz. The memory worked constantly at 9562 MHz frequencies – an impressive result for the GDDR5 chips, but Ventus showed the same results from memory.
When the fans were fixed at 1300 rpm, the internal temperature was maintained within 61 ° С (stand open, inside 22 ° С). That is, it was possible not only to speed up the video card, but also to maintain a silent operating mode.
Characteristics of tested video cards
Compare MSI Gaming X with MSI GTX 1650 Ventus XS and a simple version of the GeForce GTX 1650. Also included are GeForce GTX 1050 Ti, GeForce GTX 1060 3GB and GeForce GTX 1060 3GB 4GB tests.

Assassin's Creed Odyssey

The MSI mates demonstrate the same fps in Far Cry 5. The backlog of GeForce GTX 1060 and Radeon RX 570 is about 11%. The game closes this gap by increasing the frequencies, exceeding the forced Ventus by 5%.
Final fantasy XV

The new NVIDIA is slightly inferior to the 3 GB GeForce GTX 1060 and the 4 GB Radeon RX 570, capable of overclocking. At the same time, the GeForce GTX 1650 has lower energy consumption and lower temperature. The MSI GeForce GTX 1650 Gaming X graphics card has a good factory overclock, but the real advantage over MSI Ventus is poor – probably the overall potential is partially hindered by the standard memory frequency. The increase in Gaming's energy consumption partially puts one of the main advantages of this series in the foreground, but it is still a cold and cheap video card. High quality PCBs, additional power and a higher power limit offer more overclocking opportunities. And all these opportunities translate into a real advantage, after Gaming accelerates by 3-5% faster than Ventus. If we start from the initial execution of a simple version of GeForce GTX 1650, the overclocked game gets an additional 15-20% performance. In today's reality, this is a serious acceleration, as the overclocking potential of many NVIDIA video cards is often measured at around 10%. Another important advantage is the powerful cooling system. The video card can easily be called silent and cold, both in nominal mode and after overclocking. MSI GeForce GTX 1650 Gaming X will provide maximum performance in this series with excellent thermal / noise characteristics.
