I have had the privilege of testing top-of-the-line laptops from HuaweiI mean the newcomer MateBook X Pro in its 2020 edition with the new 10th generation Intel Core i7 processor on board.
This powerful Windows 10 computer stands out for integrating a 13.9-inch screen with a 3K resolution of 3000 × 2000 pixels, fully touch-sensitive and with very thin edges, having a screen-to-body ratio of 91%.
I already mentioned that we have a processor 10th Gen Intel Core i7 which is accompanied by 16GB of RAM and 1TB of SSD-type storage. It incorporates an integrated Intel UHD GPU and a dedicated NVIDIA GeForce MX250.
All of the above is inside an aluminum body that weighs 1.33 kg, protected by a fingerprint reader and a 56 Wh battery that promises to give an autonomy of up to 13 hours of local video playback.
As you will see, we have a lot to tell you about this new and powerful Huawei MateBook X Pro 2020. Next, our review begins.
As I mentioned at the beginning, the Huawei MateBook X Pro incorporates a 13.9-inch LTPS-type screen with a resolution of 3000 × 2000 pixels and a density of 260 ppi. It has a 3: 2 aspect ratio, while its contrast reaches 1500: 1 and a maximum brightness of 450 nits.
The screen is fully tactile with up to 10 touch points, its viewing angle is 178 degrees, it incorporates a light sensor to control brightness automatically, it is fully compatible with HDR streaming content and it has very thin edges with a screen-to-screen ratio. 91% body.
Without a doubt, its small edges impress and attract attention, but obviously its image quality is also excellent, with really vivid colors, a fairly high brightness and a very good definition, so far it is one of the best screens that I have. seen on a laptop.
As I mentioned earlier, this screen has a 178-degree viewing angle, making it look great from whatever side you’re looking at. The only bad thing is that, if you are in broad daylight, you may be bothered by reflections.
As the screen is compatible with HDR content, you can view this type of content through compatible streaming services, such as YouTube and also through the official Netflix application that is downloaded from the Windows store.
HARDWARE, SYSTEM AND SOFTWARE
The Huawei MateBook X Pro 2020 has inside the new 10th generation Intel Core i7-10510U processor, which is accompanied by 16 GB of LPDDR3 2,133 MHz RAM, its graphics processor is an Intel UHD Graphics and also incorporates a GPU dedicated NVIDIA GeForce MX250, in addition to its internal 1TB SSD storage.
As for wireless connectivity, we have IEEE 802.11 a / b / g / n / ac Wi-Fi with 2.4 and 5 GHz 2 × 2 MIMO support. It also has Bluetooth 5.0 and NFC to be used with the Huawei Share function that I will talk about later. All of the above is controlled by Windows 10 Home in its 2004 version.
As you will see, dear reader, we are facing powerful hardware with which we are going to have extraordinary performance, ideal for running powerful applications, such as editing videos in 4K quality, editing high-resolution photographs or running a game that is not so demanding, although for the latter this equipment is not intended.
But without a doubt, it will be your ideal partner for our work, especially if we use office applications where office programs, web browsing, social networks, multimedia content, image and video editing, etc. are used.
Not only is it a truly portable computer, it is also very fast in those moments when we need to use our equipment quickly, since it takes less than 6 seconds to fully start up.
I’m going to show you the above, its performance, the design, in addition to the few Huawei proprietary apps, the sound quality of its 4 speakers directly on video, so you can see it fully in action:
Unlike other Huawei equipment that I have tried, this time we do not have the Dolby Atmos software and I do not know the reasons, although perhaps Huawei has terminated its contract with them. Similarly, Netflix offers me content with Dolby Atmos …
Instead, we have a very basic application called Realtek Audio Console that will only allow us to modify the volume of the speakers, microphones, among others.
We also have the NVIDIA control panel to be able to make some adjustments to the dedicated NVIDIA GeoForce MX250 video card that it incorporates. In addition, we have the possibility to open an application and choose if we want to run it with the Intel UHD GPU or with the NVIDIA MX250.
Now, in terms of security, we have the fingerprint reader that is located right on the power button, and as I mentioned earlier, the recognition works very fast. The administration this time is in charge of Windows Hello.
The Huawei MateBook X Pro 2020 integrates an NFC tag called Huawei Share, which will allow us to easily and quickly connect with any Huawei smartphone that has EMUI 9.1 or higher.
In this way you can respond to messages from messaging applications, such as WhatsApp, directly from the computer without touching anything on the mobile. You can even make and receive calls, view multimedia content, as well as I can record the screen of the MateBook directly on the Huawei smartphone to share it, and transfer files from one computer to another.
Unfortunately at the time of writing this review, I do not have a Huawei smartphone, so I could not test this spectacular function that I have already tried on previous occasions, as in the review del Huawei MateBook 13 2020.
And where is the front camera?
Unlike many laptops, Huawei opted for a system that hides the camera in the keyboard itself, so that it remains hidden and at the same time protects your privacy.
This camera has a resolution of 1 megapixel and it looks pretty good, at least I have not received complaints when making video calls, although some people have been struck by the angle seen in the image, since the camera is more below what one is used to seeing.
Our protagonist integrates a 56 Wh battery that will give us up to 13 hours of video playback in 1080p as reported by Huawei. However, in my personal use, which was mostly telecommuting in general, more social networks, and multimedia content, the MateBook accompanied me for approximately 13 hours.
As I showed you in the demonstration video, the battery is charged through a USB Type-C port and has a Quick Charge fast charging system thanks to its 65 W charger with which we can charge the battery quickly. This same charger will also quickly charge our smartphone compatible with fast charging (regardless of the brand), in this way, if we go on a trip it will only be enough that we walk with only one charger.
I must say that this is the first time that I have tested a high-end Huawei laptop and I was really surprised with the performance and features in general.
I loved its design, especially for its emerald green color that is totally out of the ordinary and I loved that, apart from the fact that it exudes elegance wherever you look at it with its aluminum material and very thin body, in addition to being light. In fact, it weighs 1.33 kg and its dimensions are 304 x 217 x 14.6 mm.
Then came its 13.9-inch touch screen with 3K resolution that looks great, with a very high brightness, very vivid colors and its very thin edges was the best, in fact, I used to have a MacBook Air from 2015 with a screen with very thick edges, and making the jump to this MateBook was a huge change.
I have nothing to criticize about its performance, it works very well, fluid, fast, Windows 10 runs perfect thanks to its tenth generation Intel Core i7 processor and its 16GB of RAM. Then you stay calm knowing that you have a 1TB of internal memory of the SSD type, and with that you will never worry about running out of storage.
I had the opportunity to edit a video in 4K with PowerDirector 18 and thanks to its dedicated NVIDIA GeForce MX250 video card I had no problem with editing, everything ran very well, and I could even afford to edit in 4K at 60 frames per second. I did not test games, but I imagine they will perform well, although this PC is clearly not for the gamer world.
Its sound quality impressed me … I had never seen a PC with this type of speaker, I always saw Macbooks that had good sound, but now I found the same result on a PC, which obviously I loved, and you could see for yourself how sounded in the demo video.
Finally, its battery … I admit that I was afraid to leave my MacBook Air because its battery accompanied me for 11 hours with my work, and I did not know if a Windows PC could give me the same autonomy. However, with the MateBook X Pro 2020 I was calm because the battery lasts me without problems all day.
In short, I recommend the Huawei MateBook X Pro 2020 without a doubt, it is incredible to see Windows run so fast on a laptop like this, if even its start does not take more than 6 seconds which is impressive. If you are looking for a PC to edit videos, photographs, multimedia content, telecommuting, social networks and that is ultra portable to take it everywhere, this is without a doubt the equipment you were looking for.
The Huawei MateBook X Pro 2020 arrived in Chile for $ 1,799,990 and can be purchased now in Huawei stores, Mercado Libre, and in stores in the retail. The first units come with the MateDock 2, an adapter to connect the equipment with an external display and offers other functions.
