According to a newspaper report, several pharmaceutical companies are preparing a joint public commitment to high safety standards for CoV vaccines. The vaccine candidates should only be approved for approval if they are safe and effective, reported the Wall Street Journal yesterday.
Clinical trials and manufacturing should be based on high scientific and ethical standards, the newspaper quoted from a draft statement. The corporations, including Pfizer, Johnson & Johnson and Moderna, could publish their promise in the coming week, it said, citing two people familiar with the considerations.
Concern about US election in November
In the race for a vaccine against the coronavirus, fears have recently arisen that political pressure could increase before the presidential election in the USA on November 3 and this could have a negative impact on security.
The most advanced vaccine candidates include those from AstraZeneca, Pfizer and Moderna. According to experts, decisive results are not expected before the end of the year. Some believe that it could be until mid-2021 before enough data is available to prove a vaccine’s safety.
