With the increase in the price of ultra-premium smartphones, manufacturers are starting to reject a new range of products, making some concessions on points that may seem secondary to some, slightly reducing the price. Three premium smartphones

Galaxy S10e, iPhone XR and Pixel 3 are designed to be perfect as the ultra premium, but some points differ, because who pays 1500 euros for their phone still has the right not to be confused with those who do not want to put more than one SMIC in their smartphone. So we find on these three smartphones very noble materials, finishes licked, but some elements that remember that concessions have been made.

In this little game, Pixel 3 is certainly doing the minimum, but still manages to stand out. If you suffer from huge edges at the top and bottom, which are reminiscent of smartphones many years ago, are justified by the presence of speakers on the front and the absence of notch, a fact quite rare when its release in 2018. It also for him his very small dimensions that allow him to seduce the detractors of the big smartphones.

The area allocated to the screen remains much higher

The Galaxy S10e and the iPhone XR do not leave their original model, despite some concessions. The iPhone XR opts for the slightly larger edges, as well as the Galaxy S10e which loses its curved edges, this Infinity Display still Samsung's brand. In the end, in front, it would approach almost a Galaxy A8, but at a lower range, that of the Galaxy S10.

But stop comparing these three smartphones with their ultra premium equivalents and comparing them rather between them. At this level, while the Apple smartphone is very anchored in the notch and the Pixel 3 recalls its ancestors Nexus, the Korean infant enters the ground floor in 2019 with its pierced screen. Of course, the space dedicated to the front camera is quite large, but it is indisputable that the area assigned to the screen remains much higher than its two challengers of the day.

The Samsung Galaxy S10e incorporates two cameras on the back, a headphone port, microSD and dual SIM

The Galaxy S10e and Pixel 3 both have an OLED screen while the iPhone XR is entitled to "Liquid Retina" LCD. Clearly, Samsung takes the broad advantage on this point, in front of the Google option. That of Apple, however, despite its negative points on the card (in particular the definition at 720p), remains very pleasant to watch every day.

The top of the perfs

In terms of performance, this new category of smartphones does not compromise. Apple A12 Bionic, Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 and Samsung Exynos 9820 respectively equip iPhone XR, Pixel 3 and Galaxy S10e. The same chips so that their declinations are higher. The biggest difference can come from the RAM with 1 or 2 GB less depending on the model.

This difference is rather small and we have to admit that the three smartphones offer all the high performances able to make any game work to its full potential. Finally more or less. In the case of Fortnite, it is case by case. The iPhone XR runs the game at 60 FPS, but is more complicated on Android since every device needs to be validated by Epic. The list is currently very limited and we do not find the Pixel 3 while there is the American Galaxy Note 9, but equipped with the same chip. Like the iPhone, the Galaxy S10e is compatible.

In addition to this very precise game, fluidity and performance are among the best on the market. Note however that many testimonies report slowdowns after several months on Pixel 3.

A "pure" iOS and Android user interface

The iPhone XR and Google Pixel 3 have the advantage of being designed by the same people as those who develop the base of their system. A significant advantage for those who want quick major updates. The Samsung Galaxy S10e for its part runs on Android 9 Pie with the new interface of the manufacturer, One UI.

iOS is what it is, with its flaws and its advantages and we have already made it back and forth in our test of the iPhone XS. Anyway, it's a must if you want an iPhone, so we will not be back on it.

For Pixel 3, note that if Google has the advantage of major updates, Samsung has the advantage over the features. A user interface is a much more complete interface than Pixel Launcher. Of course, some people will not like the aesthetic yield or the arrangement of the options, but this is a personal appreciation and everyone will have their own opinion at this level.

Single or double sensor?

The top of the range, the Galaxy S10e, the iPhone XR and the Pixel 3 do not ignore the image. The iPhone XR and Pixel 3 both send a simple back sensor with the success we know. If the iPhone XR hardly a little more in bokeh mode (only available if the smartphone recognizes a face) due to the lack of a second sensor, the Pixel 3 is one of the most amazing photophones on the market . Above all, the two competitors have excellent results both day and night, with excellent light management and excellent diving.

For its part, the Galaxy S10e opts for the dual module: on the one hand a 16 megapixel wide-angle lens (f / 2.2), and on the other a slightly narrower 12 megapixel plane with a variable aperture (f / 1.5 and f / 2.4). You will have recognized, this is the sensor of the same sensor of the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy Note 9. A well-known configuration that has already proven itself and has shown its effectiveness. It will still be necessary to wait for further tests to see if the new software introduced by Samsung improves the final rendering, especially at night-time or the management of very strong dynamics.

With its ultra-wide angle, Galaxy S10e still offers a bit more versatility than its two competitors of the day.

As for battery life, the Galaxy S10e is the one that charges the largest battery with a capacity of 3100 mAh against 2942 mAh for the iPhone XR and 2915 mAh for the Pixel 3. Unfortunately, the three devices have configurations very different and it is difficult to use this point to draw conclusions.

Also note that all three phones have a wireless charging system.

At the moment, we do not yet know the exact autonomy of the Galaxy S10e, but on this point the iPhone XR completely overwrites the Pixel 3.

Three excellent smartphones

After all this, a question remains unanswered: who, Galaxy S10e, iPhone XR or Pixel 3, is the best smartphone in this new category? Difficult today to give a very precise answer, knowing that some points have yet to be clarified by the part of the Samsung smartphone (especially with regard to autonomy). However, it is now possible to state that the three devices are definitely premium and make very little compromise compared to their counterparts that exceed 1000 euros. Safe values
