Scandalous setback of Flamengo in Libertadores, positive balance of Boca and River

The champion Flamengo suffered his first defeat in the 2020 Copa Libertadores on Thursday, in the resumption of the tournament after six months of suspension due to the pandemic, a day in which the runner-up River Plate rescued a point in Sao Paulo and Boca Juniors won in Assumption.

The ‘Mengao’, now in the hands of the Spanish Domenec Torrent in replacement of the successful Portuguese coach Jorge Jesús, continues without carburetion and this is how it was seen in Quito (2,850 masl) after losing 5-0 to Independiente del Valle.

The ‘Rayados’ del Valle, champions of the Copa Sudamericana 2019, claimed a kind of revenge of the final lost to ‘Fla’ in the Recopa Sudamericana, in February, and extended their undefeated in the Cup with the third victory in a row in Group A.

Moisés Caicedo (40), Angelo Preciado (49), Gabriel Torres (58), Jhon Sánchez (81) and Beder Caicedo (90 + 2) were responsible for the goals of Independiente del Valle.

With this result, the Ecuadorians lead alone in the key with 9 points on three dates. Flamengo is second with 6, Colombian Junior is third with 3 points thanks to his 2-1 victory over Barcelona of Ecuador (without points) in Guayaquil, with goals from Uruguayan goalkeeper Sebastián Viera (7) and Miguel Ángel Borja (70 ).

River Plate, meanwhile, caught a point (2-2) in their visit to Sao Paulo for Group D.

The ‘millionaire’ did not accuse the lack of competition due to the paralysis of activity in Argentina due to the coronavirus, and on two occasions he was up on the scoreboard, but the worked partial victory escaped him seven minutes from the end.

Colombian Rafael Santos Borré (18) and Julián Álvarez (81) scored the goals for the crossed red band, while he suffered the misfortunes of two goals against rebounds in Enzo Pérez (11) and Fabricio Angeleri (83).

The key is led by Liga de Quito with 6 points. River and Sao Paulo escort him with 4, while Binacional is bottom with 3 units.

Boca Juniors, in the midst of a controversy for bringing players to Asunción who tested positive for Covid-19, beat Libertad of Paraguay 2-0 in Group H.

Eduardo Salvio, one of the players who was infected at the beginning of the month, scored the goals of the ‘xeneize’ at 6 and 84 minutes.

With this result, Boca came to command the group with 7 points, followed by Libertad (6), Caracas FC (4) and Independiente Medellín (0).

In Buenos Aires, Nacional de Uruguay reached 9 points thanks to its third online victory in Group F. This time Racing was the victim of the ‘Bag’ when they lost 1-0 with a goal from Gonzalo Bergessio (53, penalty).

The charrúa cast commands the area followed by Racing (6), Estudiantes de Mérida (3) and Alianza Lima (0).
