The president of the United States had already announced, a few days ago, that he would not go personally to the World Economic Forum to be held in Switzerland from 21 to 25 January.
The American "shutdown" begins to have international consequences. On Thursday 17 January, the White House announced that Donald Trump had canceled the visit of the US delegation to Davos because of this administrative blockade that paralyzed the federal government. A week before, the president of the United States had already canceled his participation in the Economic Forum to be held from 21 to 25 January.
In its place was a delegation including Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross, under the direction of Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin, who had to travel to Switzerland.
The World Economic Forum (WEF), which brings together the world's economic and political elite in the Davos ski resort each year, includes 3000 participants, including 65 heads of state or government.
