Four districts of the continent and the central and western groups of the Azores are today under yellow warning due to the forecast of sometimes heavy rainfall, according to the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere (IPMA).
The districts of Aveiro, Viseu, Coimbra and Leiria have a yellow warning not only due to the forecast of precipitation, sometimes strong and persistent, but also because of the possibility of thunderstorms between 13:00 and 18:00 today.
The IPMA also placed the central (Graciosa, Faial, Pico, Terceira and São Jorge) and western (Flores and Corvo) groups under yellow warning for predicting sometimes heavy rain, which may be accompanied by thunder, and strong wind.
In the western group, the yellow precipitation warning is in effect until 09:00 on Thursday and the wind warning between 15:00 today and 21:00 on Thursday.
According to the IPMA, in the central group the yellow warning due to rain will be in effect between 12:00 pm today and 12:00 pm on Thursday and the wind warning between 3:00 pm today and 9:00 pm Thursday.
The yellow warning is issued by the IPMA whenever there is a risk for certain activities depending on the weather situation.
The IPMA forecasts today on the continent very cloudy skies, periods of rain on the west coast, gradually extending to the remaining regions, becoming more intense and persistent in the northern and central regions starting in the afternoon and changing to showers at the end. of the day.
The possibility of thunderstorms starting in the afternoon and light to moderate wind from the western quadrant is also expected, sometimes blowing strong in the highlands of the central and southern regions from the afternoon.
The forecast also points to morning fog or fog and a small drop in maximum temperature.
The minimum temperatures will vary between 06 degrees Celsius (in Guarda) and 14 (in Lisbon) and the maximum between 11 (in Guarda) and 22 (in Faro).
The IPMA foresees today in the western and central groups periods of very cloudy skies, rain and showers and strong wind with gusts up to 85 kilometers per hour.
The eastern group (São Miguel and Santa Maria) is expected to have very cloudy skies, open periods, rain and showers and a moderate west wind, turning southwest and becoming cool to very cool with gusts up to 65 kilometers per hour.
In Santa Cruz das Flores temperatures will vary between 18 and 21 degrees, in Horta between 16 and 21, in Angra do Heroísmo and in Ponta Delgada between 15 and 20 degrees.
