Police have arrested a New York Rangers ice hockey fan after punching a Tampa Bay Lightning fan at Madison Square Garden in Manhattan after a match between the two teams.

A video clip showed a Rangers fan – while the fans were leaving the stadium – spinning quickly and hitting a Lightning fan, causing him to fall unconscious.

The incident occurred after Tampa Bay beat the Rangers 2-1, and the fan was charged with assault, disorderly conduct and harassment.

The Madison Square Garden administration issued a statement describing the attack as “abhorrent” and said the fan would be banned from entering the stadium for life.
