After "a very long night", South Africa's department of international relations and co-operation on Thursday confirmed that journalist Angela Quintal has been released after being detained by authorities in Tanzania.
Quintal, now working for the US-based Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ), was detained at her hotel in Dar es Salaam with a Committee to Protect Journalists on Wednesday evening.
"Following the high commissioner, the two journalists have been brought back into their hotel. The high commissioner [Thami] "Department spokesperson Ndivhuwo Mabaya told TimesLIVE.
"He will then proceed to engage the Tanzania authority.
Mabaya said, "I spoke to him this morning and the high commissioner early this morning.
Quintal, who is the Africa program for the Committee to Protect Journalists, was on Facebook, stating that and colleague, Sub-Saharan Africa representative Muthoki Mumo, were being detained.
