Starting from the rear, this is the key factor for Max Verstappen to rise to the second podium at the 2021 Russian Grand Prix: Okezone Sports

SOCHI – Red Bull Racing Racer, Max Verstappen, managed to get on the second podium during the race Formula One (F1) Russian Grand Prix 2021 at the Sochi Circuit, Sunday (26/9/2021) evening WIB. Team Advisor Helmut Marko, said that the success of the racer was able to perform well because of rain assistance.

As is known, the Dutch racer received a punishment after being the cause of the accident experienced by Team Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton at the race at Monza. As a result, Verstappen had to be in the back position at the start of the race at the Sochi Circuit.

However, Verstappen’s race went well, even though he had to start from behind. Verstappen was able to overtake other drivers such as Valtteri Bottas and Charles Leclerc who also had to start the race from the back row due to an engine change penalty.

The Red Bull team then changed Verstappen’s tires to intermediates. However, by accident, the race was then hit by rainy weather. As a result, with these tire changes, Verstappen slowly moved up to the front row and was greatly helped by the wet track conditions due to the rain.

Seeing the incident, Red Bull Team advisor Helmut Marko commented. He confirmed that the wet track helped Verstappen get a second podium. However, he insists that their strategy is working well and is in the right conditions.

“The rain helped us. Max changed to the intermediate at the right time. He passed the field well, but unfortunately the tires wore out quickly,” said Marko, quoted by RacingNews365, Monday (27/9/2021).

“This forced us to change our strategy. A podium would not be possible without rain,” he concluded.
