It is no secret that the Japanese brand Subaru is concentrating on the American market – it is a much larger market for it than Europe, which is also laced by emission fines. That’s why just overseas will offer the BRZ sports car and also the newly introduced new generation of the WRX model, a sporty version of the Impreza.

The most important thing remains – a supercharged flat four-cylinder in front of the front axle, a manual transmission and all-wheel drive. The engine’s volume has grown from two to 2.4 liters, but the power is higher than before by only three horses – it has 275. The torque has not changed, remains at 349 Nm, and is also as before available from two thousand revolutions.
In addition to the aforementioned six-speed manual, the WRX also offers a transmission called Subaru Performance Transmission. It is a CVT with eight virtual gears. In both cases, all-wheel drive offers active torque vectoring for the best possible power transfer to the asphalt. Or gravel, as the video shows.
The GT version has better seats, but also a CVT transmission.
The new engine will quite possibly disappoint those who were looking forward to significantly higher performance; up to three hundred horses have been speculated. But there are more important innovations – for example, that electronically controlled adaptive dampers appear for the first time at the WRX.
They are standard on the better-equipped GT version, which also has electric seats from Recaro or a CVT as standard. The EyeSight package of driving assistants and watchdogs is standard on both versions.
The seats of the standard version do not look very good in terms of posture in corners, but they may surprise you.
The interior of all versions impresses with its huge, portrait-oriented infotainment display. For opponents of large displays, this may seem scary, but there are plenty of physical controls on the sides of the screen and elsewhere in the car. In particular, it is not necessary to hunt the air conditioning temperature somewhere in the menu, both zones have their own buttons for quick adjustment.

The car stands on the new Subaru Global platform, which means 28% better torsional rigidity of the unit and 75% stronger suspension points in the body. In addition, the car has a lower center of gravity and aluminum front fenders, which save two kilos of weight.
The price is not yet known, as well as the dynamic parameters of the new car; how much faster it will be than the current generation is a question. What is certain is that whoever wants it in Europe must reach for individual imports.
