Beware of excessive salt consumption!
When it comes to salt consumption, many of us immediately think of blood pressure, but a diet containing high salt does not only affect people’s blood pressure. It also weakens the immune system. A study published last year in the journal Science Translational Medicine states that people who eat a high-salt diet suffer from more severe bacterial infections. The same study also showed severe immune deficiency in people who consumed an extra 6 grams of salt per day. The World Health Organization recommends consuming less than 5 grams of salt per day in order to prevent obesity, diabetes and some diseases, especially hypertension and heart diseases.
Vitamin C is your best supporter
We know that the first thing that comes to mind when it comes to immunity is fruits, which are a source of vitamin C. The point I want to underline is that vitamin C is a water-soluble vitamin. Therefore, taking excessive supplements or consuming unlimited fruit does not protect you against diseases. Remember that you meet your vitamin C needs with the consumption of five servings of fruit and vegetables that you should take daily. When you think of vitamin C, citrus fruits come to mind immediately. I mentioned that the vitamin C in the citrus group affects our immunity positively.
