Swiss rider Robin Godel’s horse euthanized after a heavy fall in the eventing cross

He tore a ligament in his front right leg after landing a jump. “Due to the severity of the injury and the pain caused, the horse had to be euthanized shortly after,” Swiss Olympic wrote in a statement. “Robin Godel was not injured and the accident was neither due to a fault of the rider nor to ground faults of the Seaforest Cross Country Course”, added the Swiss Olympic Committee, specifying that the substitute Eveline Bodenmüller will ride Violine de la Brasserie on Monday during the jumping, last part of this equestrian triathlon. Godel was 47th after the dressage.

On Saturday, the Belgian Lara de Liedekerke, the only black-yellow-red rider entered in the event, had to forfeit due to a minor injury to her horse Alpaca d’Arville. She was in 48th place after dressage, the first of the three aspects of the discipline.
