DAmerican Madison Keys won the WTA tournament in Cincinnati, Ohio, earning a title at a Premier Mandatory event for the first time. The 24-year-old US Open finalist of 2017 prevailed in the final of the $ 2,344,486 hard-field competition 7: 5, 7: 6 (7: 5) against Russian Svetlana Kuznetsova.
Keys returns to the top ten in the world ranking list with a total of five victories on the WTA Tour after almost 14 months of abstinence and will be in tenth place on Monday.
Kuznetsova pushes forward
The 34-year-old Kusnezowa, who started with a wildcard, missed her first Premier Mandatory title since October 2009 in Beijing, but makes a huge leap in the WTA ranking. The former world ranking second, after injury problems prior to the pre-tournament in Toronto only number 198 in the world, is now back on place 62.
Kuznetsova had defeated Ashleigh Barty (Australia) 6-2, 6-4 in the semi-final and the French Open would have won the world championship title from Japan's Naomi Osaka.
