Alexa's smart assistant became available for the first time on Windows 10 computers. By downloading the Amazon assistant from the Microsoft Store, users can create reminders and to-do lists, set timers and alarms, read news and weather forecast, play music, listen to podcasts and audiobooks, manage smart appliances and more.
A new application opens up access to "tens of thousands" of Alexa's skills, they say to Amazon. At the time of launch, however, not many features are available: for example, you can not activate videos, chat with instant messengers and use streaming services like Spotify and Pandora.
Alexa is available on Windows 10 PCs in the United States, the United Kingdom and Germany. Users from other countries will open the assistant next year, writes TechCrunch.
In addition, the Amazon online store catalog began offering preconfigured Windows computers to use Alexa out of the box (Alexa Built-In). These models are offered by Acer, Asus, Dell, HP and Lenovo.
Amazon and Microsoft "have made friends" with their assistants in the summer, opening opportunities for users who were previously only available to one of them. By switching to Cortana, users can order products from the Amazon online store, turn off music and manage smart home systems, Alexa can read the mail and record events in the Outlook calendar.
